64. Artificial Intelligence Can Write for Me; But Should It?

In recent years, the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into various industries has risen like nothing else. A 2024 survey by McKinsey & Company revealed that AI usage in 65% of the responders (organizations) rose to 72% with generative Articifical Intelligence such as Chatgpt and other sophisticated tools. As a communications specialist, I can wear multiple professional attire on the same day: I can be the photographer, the content creator, the journalist, the copywriter, the project manager, etc. As this enhances my professional (and sometimes personal) skills and makes me as polyvalent as possible, I am often glad my to-do list is not the same throughout the week.

The integration of AI into my work processes offers unique advantages. Indeed, it can assist in inspiring me with ideas when I am out of creativity, structuring my content, and analyzing the audience preferences which is, for instance, reading the data way faster than I can. All of these advantages enhance my creative workflow, as well as the well-being of the company's visibility and messaging. For instance, AI can produce preliminary drafts, allowing me to refine these into inspired campaigns. (source: https://bit.ly/42W6ZkD)

However ...

while AI significantly enhances efficiency by automating tasks and streamlining workflows, it cannot replace the irreplaceable: The Human Touch (it cannot can it?).

No algorithm can truly capture the energy of a live event, the emotions behind a speaker’s words, or the nuances of an unscripted interaction (can Chatgpt capture a spontaneous laugh made by someone on stage during a networking event?).

Building on that, when I physically attend professional events, festivals, project openings, Demo Days, etc; it allows me to immerse myself in the atmosphere, observe subtle details, and engage with the events' participants in ways that AI simply cannot.

Taking my camera and/or my phone and capturing original photos and videos, rather than relying on stock visuals or AI-generated content, adds authenticity to my storytelling, hence my article/reel/press release, etc. Plus, gathering real-time quotes from speakers and attendees allows me to have the Human contact I keep looking for during each of these events. It not only preserves the integrity of the message but also builds credibility by ensuring accuracy and context.

While AI can assist in organizing information, suggesting narratives, or even drafting initial versions of content, to my opinion, it lacks the intuition and emotional intelligence that human communicators bring to the table. The true power of communication lies in its ability to connect with audiences on a deeper level something that only human presence and engagement can achieve. Striking the right balance between AI’s efficiency and human empathy is what ensures that our work remains informative, genuine, relatable, and, most importantly, trustworthy.

To conclude, while Artificial Intelligence serves as a valuable tool in completing a communications specialist's daily work, preserving the human element is essential for maintaining originality and credibility in our communications.
